The Secretary for Relations with States of the Holy See, Archbishop Dominique Mamberti is on his visit in Georgia from the 13th to the 16th of September 2014, reports GHN based on the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
On the 15th of September a meeting was held between the Georgian Foreign Minister, Ms Maia Panjikidze and Archbishop Dominique Mamberti where the sides discussed a broad spectrum of bilateral relations emphasizing the importance of the this visit in terms of the strengthening of friendly relations between the two states.
The sides mentioned with satisfaction the existing close co-operation in the cultural, educational and humanitarian fields. Archbishop Dominique Mamberti confirmed the readiness of the Holy See to continue to support Georgia in the future as well.
Representatives of the Holy See were brought up to date with the priorities of Georgia's foreign policy and with the reforms that have been carried out in the field of human rights protection. The guests got acquainted with the situation in the occupied territories. Archbishop Dominique Mamberti reaffirmed his firm position with respect to Georgia's sovereignty, territorial integrity and non-recognition policy. The Secretary for Relations with States laid a wreath of flowers before the Memorial of Heroes Fallen for the Unity of Georgia. On the 16th of September, the Holy See delegation will visit Khurvaleti in order to get acquainted with the situation across the occupation line. On the 14th of September, within the framework of the visit, Archbishop Dominique Mamberti was received by His Holiness and Beatitude Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia Ilia II.
The Holy See delegation will hold meetings with the President of Georgia, Mr Giorgi Margvelashvili, the Prime Minister, Mr Irakli Garibashvili and the Speaker of the Parliament, Mr Davit Usupashvili.
